Circular Economy

We believe in designing timeless spaces that not only serve our guests today but also protect the planet for future generations.
Our Focus:
We embed circular economy principles into every part of our business.
Circular Design
Circular design reimagines the lifecycle of materials – diverting waste from landfill and giving new life. Our Sustainable Procurement Policy prioritises natural, recycled, and repurposed materials, like carpets from ocean plastics and tabletops from industrial waste. We also work closely with suppliers on take-back schemes and closed-loop production.
Conscious Materials
Each property sources over 20 locally made products, supporting regional craftsmanship and lowering our emissions. Prioritising natural materials and fibers, we collaborate with artists and makers to create bespoke pieces that reflect the culture and character of the surrounding community.
Zero Waste to Landfill
Lamington is committed to achieving zero waste to landfill. Through recycling initiatives, composting programs, and waste-to-energy partnerships, we ensure that no waste ends up in landfill. To support recycling rates we manufactured custom bins to separate recycling, waste and compost more efficiently.
Meet Josh: Circular Designer
Josh Renouf is a product designer at Lamington Group, focused on transforming waste from our properties into new, functional products that can be integrated into our designs and operations.
By reimaging the potential of materials that would otherwise be discarded, he develops creative ways to repurpose discarded materials, driving closed-loop solutions that enhance sustainability across our operations.

Repurpose and Reintroduce
Across our properties, we have curated interiors that push the boundaries of waste repurposing.
room2 Belfast’s front desk counter is made out of shampoo bottles, recycled from our room2 Southampton location.
Carpets at room2 Belfast and Chiswick made from abandoned fishing nets and industrial scraps.
Wooden coffee tables made from reclaimed sleepers, used in Winnie’s Cafe.
Closing the Loop on Food Waste
Food waste is a significant environmental challenge. In hospitality, vast amounts of food often go unused due to inefficiencies in sourcing, storage and disposal. At room2, we are committed to breaking this cycle by integrating circular solutions that minimise waste. Across all of our properties, 100% of food waste is anaerobically digested, composted on-site or sold via TooGoodToGo.
In 2023, we initiated in-house food waste collection at room Chiswick to enable an on-site composting facility. Fully embraced by our teams, we now use our homemade compost in-house and donate to local environmental and social community projects.

Celebrating Local
Heritage and local identity have always been central to sustainability and we take pride in embracing our cities culture and community.
