All brands evolve, but the best evolutions build on what already exists. This year, our flagship brand, room2, became Second Nature, a reflection of a philosophy that has long shaped how we operate. It reflects our longstanding commitment to people, places, planet, and now progress and purpose, while bringing our teams, spaces and operations together under a clearer and more unified identity.
This year also marked important progress towards Net Zero, something that is key for our business efficiency as well as our corporate responsibility. We achieved a 37% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions against our 2019 baseline, reaching our lowest recorded emissions since reporting began and aligning with our Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) trajectory for the first time since 2022. We continued to maintain carbon-neutral operations across our Second Nature hometels through a combination of emissions reductions and verified carbon offsets, while publicly publishing carbon receipts for guests and clients.
Sustainability continues to extend beyond carbon. This year, Second Nature Belfast became the first hotel in the UK, and fourth globally, to achieve WELL Platinum Certification. We also grew our Circular Design Studio, focusing on reducing waste through the development of circular products made from our own operational waste streams. We strengthened our relationship with the communities around us, hosting live music and community events, bringing local artists and groups into our spaces, while supporting local suppliers, charities and organisations through ongoing partnerships and in-kind support.
Encouragingly, we continue to see clear evidence that sustainability matters to our guests. In our 2026 guest survey, 71% of respondents said our sustainability initiatives make them more likely to choose us over a competitor. For us, this reinforces that sustainability is increasingly intertwined with how guests perceive quality, trust and value.
Many of the current challenges facing the hospitality and real estate sectors are complex and systemic. But this year's progress demonstrates that long-term environmental and social commitments can sit alongside - and contribute to - strong guest experience, operational performance and business resilience.
We also continue to expand across the UK. Second Nature York is currently under construction and due to open early 2027, whilst Second Nature Leeds continues through development. Our wider pipeline also includes future projects in Manchester, Cambridge and Shepherd's Bush. Looking ahead, we are excited by the opportunity to bring our approach to more places, demonstrating that hospitality and real estate can create lasting value for people, communities and the environment.
Sincerely,
Robert Godwin, Chief Executive Officer
