At Lamington Group, we believe in creating spaces that enable people to be the best versions of themselves. Health and well-being have always been central to our sustainability approach, so we’re proud to share that room2 Belfast has been awarded WELL Platinum Certification – the highest level of recognition under the WELL Building Standard.
room2 Belfast is the first hotel in the UK and Europe – and the fourth in the world – to receive this accreditation, joining a select group of developments worldwide that are redefining how the built environment can enhance occupant health, comfort and sustainability.
What is WELL Certification?
Developed by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), the WELL Building Standard is the leading global framework for designing and operating buildings that advance human health and wellbeing.
It assesses performance across ten key areas – air, water, nourishment, light, movement, thermal comfort, sound, materials, mind and community – all backed by scientific and medical research that demonstrates how buildings directly influence our physical and mental health. Certification requires independent, third-party testing and verification to ensure that rigorous standards are met and maintained.
WELL Highlights at room2 Belfast
room2 Belfast demonstrated outstanding performance across several key WELL concept areas:
- Nourishment: Healthy eating is encouraged through clear nutritional labelling, educational initiatives, mindful dining spaces and responsibly sourced, sustainable food options.
- Movement: Active design is integrated throughout the building, from visible staircases and cycling facilities to a walkable location that naturally supports physical activity and wellbeing.
- Air Quality: room2 Belfast exceeds benchmarks for air quality through real-time monitoring and enhanced pollutant control strategies, ensuring a clean, safe environment for guests and staff.
- Innovation: With WELL Accredited Professionals on our team and forward-looking initiatives such as carbon inventory and reduction programmes, we continually push beyond conventional best practice.
This achievement reinforces our belief that sustainability must always extend to people. It’s about creating spaces that actively support human health, happiness and resilience. As we continue to expand the room2 portfolio, we remain committed to designing hotels that nurture physical, mental and social well-being — for our guests, our teams and the communities we serve.
